Making your own lavender bath bombs

Lavender bath bombs

Lavender bath bombs are an upmarket version of lavender bath salts. I love them because they are sort of an adult version of kiddies bubble bath. I love to watch them sizzle and pop and somehow that fizzle seems to dissipate the stress of the day. Perhaps its just the diversion of watching them fizz and then taking a nice long soak in the tub. Either way, lavender bath bombs are a little more work than the lavender bath salts, but I find them worth the extra effort :)

Ingredients needed to make lavender bath bombs

You will need:

1/4 cup baking soda
2 tbs. citric acid or absorbic acid
1 tbs. borax powder
2 tbs. powdered sugar
2 tbs. sweet almond oil
1 tsp. Vitamin E oil
1/4 tsp. fragrance or essential oil

How to make your lavender bath bombs:

Combine all of the dry ingredients in a bowl and stir until well blended.

Drizzle in almond oil and stir until mixture is moistened.
Add Vitamin E oil and fragrance and stir until well mixed.
Take teaspoon size globs of mixture and form the mixture into ball shapes with your fingers. The mixture will be VERY crumbly and fragile, but do the best you can.
Place the balls on a sheet of wax paper and leave alone for 2-3 hours.
Reshape balls and then them air dry and harden for at least 10 days. This will allow the lavender fragrance to develop and penetrate.
Store your lavender bath bombs in a closed container to protect them from moisture.

Why you should use your lavender bath bombs

We are all afraid of the big C – cancer. Studies show that sleep deprivation leads to an imbalance in glucose metabolism. And I am not talking about the terrorist cell, month on end sleep deprivation you see on the movies either. Studies show that just four nights of interrupted sleep can seriously affect the bodies ability to maintain healthy glucose levels.

Studies further show that glucose spikes are a serious hazard to long term health. Glucose spikes – caused by sleep deprivation amongst other things – can lead to diabetes, cancer, weight gain, retinal eye damage and even reduced coronary blood flow (Blood to the heart).

So ensuring you get enough sleep and good quality sleep is no longer just about getting “your beauty sleep”. It can literally be a life or death situation. So after a stressful day at work, adding a lavender bath bomb to your bath can help you maintain healthy glucose levels which will keep you fit and healthy – and also help you shed a few pounds.
